Lost Farm GolfAussie Golfer is excited to share some photos of Lost Farm, a new golf course set to open in Tasmania in October 2010. Lost Farm golf course is described as the sister course to Barnbougle Dunes and by all reports will be even better.

Most Australian golfers have now heard of Barnbougle Dunes in Bridport, Tasmania. It was rated by Australian Golf Digest as Australia's 4th best golf course this year, despite only opening in 2005 and is becoming a golfing pilgrimage for many golfers across the country.

It is a magnificent golf course unlike anything else in Australia and it is only a matter of time before the rest of the world recognise it in the same way. Travellers to the north-east of Tasmania will soon have a second incredible golf course to play.

Opening nearby is Lost Farm (photos). Word is that this course will surpass Barnbougle Dunes and firmly entrench itself in the world's top 50 golf courses. Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, they have had a lot to live up to after the success of the Barnbougle Dunes (designed by Tom Doak and Mike Clayton) but the hype has been huge.

It is not hard to see why when you look at the early photos which were kindly made available to display on Aussie Golfer by Keith Rhebb. You can see a whole lot more of Lost Farm on his Flikr page.

  1. Im yet to get down to Tassie to play Barnbougle and have also heard the hype from a number of sources that Lost Farm if anything is better than Barnbougle. Hoping to head down there later in the year, how about you?

  2. Just amazing. All you hear about Tassie is the degrading jokes about the people being inbred. But everyone I know who goes there loves every minute of it - unspoiled paradise.

  3. I was lucky enough to have a sneak peak of the Lost Farm course and facilties last week and I can tell you that after I revovered from the spectaular views to be had from the wellness centre and resturant it become very apparant that this course is going to be a ripper. I'm predicing better than Barnbougle and we all know how good that is.

  4. This course looks like its going to be a beauty.....Player a couple of rounds at Barnbougle a few years ago and we had grins from ear to ear as we came to each new hole. If this is anywhere near the quality of Barnbougle and looking at some of the pics it will be, this is gonna be a joy to play. Can't wait to get down there again when it opens for play

  6. Played Lost Farm yesterday, and yes, its as good if not better than the hype. Having played the awesome Barnbougle Dunes the day before, Lost Farm had a lot to live up to. But there are at least 12 signature holes, and probably only one (12th) hole that you would call average. We played with the Pure Golf kiwis, who had racked up about 328 consecutive rounds (including about 60 of the worlds Top 100). They rated both courses up with the best they had played all year. High praise indeed. Basically, get there!!!!

  8. I drove from Sydney to Melbourne, crossing over to Devonport in the Spirit of Tasmania on a 2 weeks self drive vacation of Tasmania with the family. Very enjoyable….a must for nature lovers.Tasmania is still much untouched ( unmolested ) in many parts. Great seafood and very friendly folks all the way.I have taken hundreds of pictures of Barnbougle Dunes and The LOST FARM. When I left The Lost Farm , I told a golfer that it is more spectacular than Barnbougle Dunes and I did not play golf in either of the courses! I am planning to bring my golf clubs next time.
Tassie , I will be back

  9. I played Barnbougle twice in a week a few years ago, and there is no doubt it is a wonderful and spectacular course. My only problem is that realistically I need a buggy to play, and normally buggies are not available. I am now longer a spring chicken and have hip problems that aggravate the situation. I understand the Lost Farm also does not allow buggies. There is no doubt that this will prevent some enthusiastic golfers for playing these courses. A great shame. Could small individual buggies be made available?

  10. That is interesting. I didn't realise buggies were not available but I'm guessing they are modelling the experience as much on the traditional Scottish links experience as possible.
Did you mention this to them at all? Smaller individual buggies is a good idea.

  11. I had the opportunity to go to Bridport over the Melbourne cup weekend and played both dunes and Lost Farm courses. Both courses are pristine and were an absolute joy to play. We also had a wonderful meal at dunes restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed and the locals were very friendly. Will definately be going back there in the near future
