Overview
The greens are woeful, bumpy, patchy and usually slow. The bunkers have “things” growing in them, the fairways are always in poor condition and resemble any other courses rough. That is all you can say about it. The course is not looked after and there are no signs of improvement. It has been a poor course ever since I’ve been alive.
At $11.50 a nine, it is cheap, but you still feel slightly ripped off when you leave. The practice green is probably the best green on the course. Lake Claremont does have a par 3 course which is fun and good to take the Mrs on, but of similar standard and most holes (6 of 9) are under 100m. Good if you need to practice your wedge shots.
Avoid this course unless you have to.
Highlights
The surroundings of Lake Claremont have the potential to be a decent little course. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd all border the “Lake” (swamp is more appropriate unfortunately but it is an interesting site) and make it a challenge for anyone with a hook. Great opportunity to hit over the lake on the par 5 2nd which is usually too enticing to avoid.
The layout of the course is not bad, with three par 3s, 4s and 5s. The highlight being the 5th, a nice 160m par 3 that is a bugger of a hole. Hitting over a valley onto an elevated green, that must only be 5m deep (although generously wide). Protected by a bunker at the left front and horrible drop offs over the back and the right make it no easy approach. The green is two-tiered with the right being a good half a metre higher than the left, which can give you some entertaining putts.
No driveable par 4s which is sad. The 3rd is short enough, but unless you have a massive, dependable hook it is too well protected by the trees on the left. The 6th could be drivable, but is massively uphill and unless you hit it around 290m it’s not an option.
Lots of car parking.
Lowlights
Every green, bunker and fairway. No bar, hardly any food or amenities at all.
The photo is actually the practice green which they have stuck a flag in.

Yes choosing a golf course might be a
difficult task. you need to about the course and and their facilities, how good is the greens. it could all have impact on you game.
I recently played on the Short 9 course. Its terrific if you want to improve your short game and mine needs improving trust me.
The course itself has improved quite a bit since I visited a year ago. Even with the extremly limited budget they now have the staff have done their utmost to ensure the t-offs and the green are great. My kids and I enjoy seeing the turtles and the ducklings at this time of year.
The course has a real friendly community feel about it – something sadly missing in some of the big nameless courses that are more like sausage factories.
The staff at the course are friendly and helpful and its a terrific place to have a quick one hour game of golf after work.
I brought my kids down and they just loved it. Lake Claremont Golf Course is a local golf course for local people to meet up with friends and play a game of golf at their own pace. We have been back many times now and are acknowledged by staff as regulars. Its great not being another nameless face in the crowd who is hurried along by frantic and manic pseudo professionals, cheers, Jamie.
