Lyle diagnosed with leukaemia again

March 8, 2012

Only three weeks ago Jarrod Lyle was in with a very real chance for his first PGA Tour victory. Now he is facing a second long battle against leukaemia.

Jarrod LyleJarrod Lyle got married last year, just three days after securing his PGA Tour card at Q-School. Coupled with the news of his wife’s pregnancy, 2012 was looking positive. But the golf world has recently learned that Lyle has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

There has been a huge showing of support for Lyle from many in the golf industry and I’ve highlighted some of them below. It is the second time he has been diagnosed with the disease after fighting it off as a 17-year-old after bouts of chemotherapy.

Lyle recently returned to Australia for the birth of his first child after some fantastic results on the PGA Tour. A career best tie for fourth place at the Northern Trust Open in late February saw him climb the FedEx Cup rankings and he currently sits in 50th place. Golf will now take a back seat.

After the diagnosis, Lyle’s wife will now be induced and give birth over the coming days. Lyle will then take up the fight against leukaemia. As many of the tweets below mention, Lyle has beaten the disease before and the golfing community is with him on this one.
